How long does the traditional Maras and Moray tour take when traveling by car?

The tour typically lasts 6-7 hours total, including pickup from Cusco, transportation between sites, guided visits at both the Moray circular terraces and Maras salt mines, and return to Cusco. The actual driving time is shorter than with ATVs, allowing more time for exploration at each site.

The traditional car tour is generally more accessible than ATV tours and suitable for most ages. However, both sites involve some walking on uneven terrain and stairs. Moray has steep sections, and the salt mines have narrow pathways. Those with severe mobility issues may find some areas challenging.

Bring sun protection (hat, sunscreen, sunglasses), comfortable walking shoes, water, a light jacket (even on sunny days, as temperatures can change quickly at high altitude), and your camera. Some local currency for purchasing souvenirs or snacks is also recommended.

Many traditional tours include additional stops such as the Chinchero textile center, local markets, or viewpoints in the Sacred Valley. Some tours also offer an optional lunch stop at a restaurant in Urubamba. Check the specific itinerary when booking.

Most standard tours include a professional guide, typically available in English and Spanish. Other languages like French, German, or Italian may be available but often require advance booking and might incur an additional fee. The guides provide historical and cultural context that significantly enhances the experience at both sites.

The “terrazas” are amazing. Specially the history of how the Inca people used the Terrazas as a laboratory to adapt their plants to different climates. The Salinas are also very interesting.
